Understanding Acidity and Alkalinity for Health
Our body works very hard to maintain a state of health and homeostasis. This balance of health is dependent upon the body maintaining the right pH balance. PH is a scale that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is. The scale ranges from 0-14, with a 1 being very acidic, 7 neutral and 14 very alkaline. Our body and our cells try to maintain a slightly alkaline environment. We can become acidic when we choose to eat improper foods, maintain certain lifestyles, and lead stressful lives.
Over-acidification creates an environment that germs thrive in and create illness. We always have microorganisms in us and around us. If we are to maintain a 7.365 pH alkaline balance the germs that cause problems cannot thrive. Acidosis also causes cardiovascular disease, increases weight and obesity, increases chance of diabetes, bladder and kidney conditions, immune deficiency, increases free radical damage which causes cancer mutations, premature aging, osteoporosis, joint and muscle pain, low energy and chronic fatigue, slow digestion and elimination and yeast and fungal overgrowth.
Improving our lifestyles, eating more whole foods and finding ways to deal with the stresses in our life can help reduce the acidity, inflammation and disease potential in our lives.
Easy ways to alkalize our bodies:
Drinking more alkaline beverages – water with added sea salt, baking soda or calcium bentonite clay Eating live food – fresh vegetables, sprouts and fruits
Exercising regularly – especially in nature, walking, biking, skiing, swimming, and stretching
Slow, deep abdominal breathing – be conscious of how you are breathing throughout the day
Reduce acidic foods and drinks, reduce thoughts of anger, hate and revenge
Be grateful for all you have and put out positive thoughts and energy ![]()
